Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Philip Etale has launched a scathing attack on Kibra Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga, accusing him of being behind last weekend's violence in the constituency.
ODM leaders were on Friday summoned by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after Mariga's campaign rally was disrupted, his agents beaten up, and motor vehicles damaged.
The former international footballer lodged a complaint with the electoral agency prompting it to summon leaders of the Raila Odinga-led party.
Referring to him as Mr Betin, Etale pointed an accusing finger at Mariga, claiming that he stage-managed the violence against himself to implicate ODM's candidate Imran Okoth.
He mocked Mariga saying his plan to have Imran thrown out of the race had fallen flat after the electoral body dismissed his complaint.
"So Mr Betin reported ODM to the IEBC praying that the party candidate for Kibra Mr Bernard Otieno Okoth Imran will be disqualified from the race. The IEBC has listened to the prayers, looked at the complainant and dismissed him with the contempt the deserves," said Etale.
"Can you imagine, someone hiring goons to stone his own cars and burn his effigy with the hope that his/her opponent will be implicated in the crime? That is pure balderdash and a lack of human intelligence. The grey matter must be smelling cow dung for one to imagine that someone can be punished for crimes they did not commit. That is pure IDIOCY. Let the people of Kibra decide," added Etale.
