In the recent past, we have been treated to shocking news of mysterious deaths of young campus girls who lost their lives courtesy of the so-called sponsors.
Many more, God forbid, could suffer the same fate if the current status quo where such deaths remain unresolved continues to prevail.
Today, the country is shocked by the callous murder of a Rongo University student, Sharon Otieno, who allegedly met her death courtesy of her sponsor.
The mass hysteria will be on for the next two days after which we shall all be back to the fight against corruption and fuel hike debates. Sharon will be gone and forgotten even before her burial. So bad!
So, how do we help campus girls to avoid trouble with sponsors? As it is said, every problem created by human has got a human solution.
Here are some of the measures that campus girls should take to avoid sponsor-related trouble.
1. Avoid the hyena-mentality: The hyena-mentality is simply the desire to achieve two goals simultaneously. You want a flashy lifestyle while still a student straight from high school?
Well, go get married to your so-called sponsor and live large. The other option is to stick primarily to what took you to school. Otherwise, you can't eat your cake and have it.
2. Avoid threatening/confronting sponsors: Sponsors are people who have gone through hell to gain that coveted status that lures you to them. They know you do not love them, what you love is what they have.
They will, therefore, not stand by as you threaten to bring down that which they have laboured for in their entire lives. If you can't stand them for whatever reason, my sister, pack and leave silently as you came.
3. Make your relationship with the sponsor official: If you love the sponsor so much that you cannot fathom losing him, why not ask him you formalise your relationship in church or at the Attorney General's chambers?
There is nothing as dangerous as being a side-kick for any man. Once you are used and completely spent, to that man, he will dump you. Some will tell you hell!
