Nairobi lawyer Assa Nyakundi who is accused of shooting and killing his son has been charged with manslaughter.
Nyakundi was arraigned on Friday before Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Bosibori Nyang’ena.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on Sh1 million bond with a surety of similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000.
The Magistrate further ordered the city lawyer to vacate his Muthaiga home.
The court also ordered the accused to be reporting to the investigating officer regularly for the next 14 days.
In his plea for bail, Nyakundi told the court that his family is undergoing counselling sessions after the tragic incident.
The case will be mentioned on June 20.
Nyakundi had been hospitalized for six weeks after he allegedly shot and killed his son last month.
The famous city lawyer told police that he accidentally shot his 29-year-old son.
According to the lawyer, he was trying to holster his firearm while in his car when he accidentally shot his son on the chest.
However, a post-mortem report contradicted the lawyer’s statement. The report revealed that the deceased could have been shot outside the vehicle and not inside as Nyakundi has claimed.
The deceased was buried on April 2 at the Langata cemetery.
