Muslim fraternity around the world is expected to celebrate Idd al-Adha tomorrow.
The Idd day is characterised by two rakaa of prayers and fervent remembrance to Allah- God.
What exactly does this celebration day mean Islamically?
The Idd al-Adha also known as" Festival of Sacrifice", is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year - the other one being Idul al - Fitri that is marked at the end of Ramadhan- and is considered the holier of the two.
The day falls on the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah- the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar and continues up to three days known as ayamul tashriq, the 3 consecutive days following the Idul Al-Adha.
The Idul Adha day takes place the day after pilgrims perform Hajj or the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide.
The day is basically dedicated to imitate and honour the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God’s command
God commanded his prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son , which he conceded obediently before God granted him a Ram to be slaughtered instead of the Son.
Basically, the slaughtered animal in this day is divided into three portions: one-third of the position is given to the underprivileged individuals in the society; another third is given to the immediate relatives; while, the remaining part is reserved for the family.
