Etale on Friday evening shared photos accompanied by an explanation of an alleged arrest and detainment of one Ibrahim Cham-Sadine by ousted Sudan leader Omar Al-Bashir.

Cham-Sadine was the country's security minister during Al-Bashir's tenure as president.

Etale, in the Facebook post, claimed that Sadine had been arrested and detained by Albashir since June 11, 2008.

He also claimed that Albashir announced to the State that Cham-Sadine had died in a plane crash and went on to say the ex-minister was recently rescued from where he was being detained.

Journalists led by BBC's Roncliffe Odit and Citizen TV's Enock Sikolia dismissed the reports as fake news.

Both Mr Sikolia and Odit confirmed that the photo showing a malnourished elderly man was that of a Turkana hunger victim whom they recently covered on separate assignments.

Mr Odit, in his comment on the widely shared post, stated that he was the one who photographed the hunger victim in the photo Etale had shared as that of the Sudan former minister while under detention.

Etale's post stayed up on his Facebook timeline for several hours and had attracted over 500 reactions, most of which were comments urging him not to be an agent of fake news.

Etale deleted the post on Saturday morning and has not made any statement to clarify or apologise for the miscommunication.
