Uasin Gishu County Hospital is set to unveil a newly refurbished medical laboratory this Friday. Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the officer in charge of the facility Jedida Kiprop said that lab services are expected to resume immediately."The services had earlier been halted to allow for the remodelling of the wing which also hosts the facility’s 6-bed maternity wing but the services will now return to normalcy on Friday," she said. The 6-bed maternity wing offers emergency deliveries to mothers on transit and it does not rival the 40-bed capacity at the Eldoret West Maternity. The project was funded by UAP Old Mutual Insurance Company to the tune of Sh10.9 million.UAP had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the County Government of Uasin Gishu on refurbishing the then dilapidated laboratory as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.According to County lab technologist Amos Kuto, the resumption of the lab services will aid in decongesting other public laboratories at the County including the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.Kutto said that disease surveillance, biochemistry analysis, and haematology services will be available upon the facility’s opening.“We expect Uasin Gishu County Hospital Laboratory to offer practical training to students from institutions of higher learning who are pursuing medical laboratory in their studies,” he said. The main laboratory, waiting bay, reception, sample rooms, maternity, and lavatory are among the areas that were redone thanks to the public-private partnership between the County Government and the UAP Insurance Company.
