Members of the public were left in a rude shock on Thursday afternoon after a middle-aged man collapsed and died.
The incident happened at Daraja Mbili area within Kisii town in Kisii County.
Witnesses said the deceased whose identity is yet to be revealed went to a local food joint and demanded to be given water for drinking.
"He ordered food and a glass of drinking water but, unfortunately, he started shaking, collapsed and died on the spot before he could be served with food and water," said Benard Osoro.
Mr. Osoro noted that the public tried to administer first aid to the deceased in vain.
Mary Kemunto, a tomato vendor said the deceased had asked her to pack tomatoes worth Sh 80.
"He told me to pack for him tomatoes and give him once he leaves the hotel not knowing he will die. It is a shocking death which has never happened here before," she noted.
Kisii Central OCPD Francis Nguli said the late might have been sick.
"It was a shocking death but, we can't do anything because God's plans can't be known," he noted.
He said police moved the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
