It is a fact that frequent Al-Shabaab attacks have become a thorn in the flesh for most residents of Garissa county, with the latest incident being meted on Yumbis residents of Fafi sub-county.
Although Kenyan police officers successfully managed to repulse the terrorists, the incident has left the residents in the dark due to the grounding of Safaricom communication mast.
As the case could be, locals have been left out of touch with the world as there is no network coverage in the area at the moment.
Locals in MPESA business have been left incurring losses as they cannot continue with their businesses which largely rely on the availability of Safaricom network coverage.
Furthermore, the unavailability of communication network exposes the locals and security agencies to more threats from the Al-Shabaab assailants. In the event that the attackers strike, locals can neither report to respective security officials on time nor can the police seek reinforcement in case they get overpowered.
With this in mind, the government should urgently move in and restore the mast to ease security surveillance and restore the region's economy back to normalcy.
Failure, Fafi constituents will continue suffering at the hands of the assailants whose aim is to expose the area as a no-go zone.
