The death toll from the West Pokot landslide tragedy has risen to 52.
The area county boss John Lonyangapuo has said that six more bodies have been recovered from the incident while 22 persons are still missing.
He urged the national government to continue supporting the victims of the landslides following the disaster.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was forced to land in Eldoret after efforts to reach West Pokot proved futile. He said that the region had become too dangerous and he might not make it to the place. He also said that the government is working around the clock to ensure the situation reverts back to normalcy.
"In the meantime, we will wait, but if it becomes too dangerous for us to go in; we will either wait here in Eldoret or go back to Nairobi. At certain times, we have to agree with the dictatorship of Mother Nature" he said.
On his part, Police IG Hillary Mutyambai said that the government has embarked on the mission to rescue affected families from the region. He asked all families at the place to relocate to safer places.
“We are moving families to safer grounds and taking injured to nearest hospitals. Despite the poor weather, disallowing us reach Kapenguria, the teams on the ground are working together & the situation is under control,” he said.
