The media has been accused of inciting Kenyans against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, by mostly focusing on the re-introduction of the post of prime minister.

According to governance expert David Osiany, the media has dwelt on this factor, leaving out majority of the other recommendations, which might affect the acceptability of the report.

He noted that consequently, majority of Kenyans remain in the dark on the other beneficial suggestions made by the report, leading to them feeling that it has nothing for them.

"Some are saying the BBI does not address the needs of Kenyans at the ground level, this is because the media is only speaking about the Prime Minister position and nothing else. (Kuna wale wanasema BBI haijaongelea wale watu wa chini, hii ni kwa sababu media inaongelea tu Prime Minister na sio kitu kingine chochote)," he said on Wednesday night.

The former Rongo parliamentary aspirant made the remarks on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show.

Osiany said having gone through the document, he can conclude that it has a lot of benefits for Kenyans.

"We shall scrutinize it, but let people not be told that all the proposals are bad, there are many which are good. (Tutaikagua, lakini watu wasiambiwe yale yote yaliyo pale ni mabaya, kuna mengi mazuri)," he added.

About the Prime Minister recommendation, the report suggests that the person who will hold that position will be picked by the president, from among elected members of parliament.

It also proposes the creation of the position of an official leader of majority, which will be held by the person who appears second in the presidential race.
