Vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna has welcomed calls for the resignation of Deputy President William Ruto over claims there was a plot to eliminate him.
The calls were made by a section of MPs allied to 'Kieleweke' group following the arrest of State House Director of Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi, who works at the DP's office.
Itumbi, a blogger-turned civil servant, was arraigned on Thursday after detectives linked him to an alleged fake letter claiming senior government officials from Mt Kenya were planning Ruto's assassination.
Led by Tiaty MP William Kamket, the legislators said the blogger was a mere decoy in the whole scandal, which they claimed was hatched by Ruto and his close aides.
They said the Jubilee deputy party leader must take responsibility for the fake claims, apologise and hand in his resignation letter, arguing he was politically and criminally responsible for the matter.
“The arrest should not just stop at the dog. We want the owner of the dog to be taken in for questioning now that it is clear that the whole affair came from his office. If it is true, the DP should resign because he has no moral authority to lead the country,” Kamket said.
Reacting to the sentiments, Miguna backed the calls, noting Ruto's resignation will give way to the 'more important' resignation of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who he described as a 'despot'.
"Because William Ruto is part of the presidency, his resignation will precipitate the necessary constitutional and political crisis resulting in the resignation of despot Uhuru Kenyatta, too. Patriots can then sort out the cartels once and for all," Miguna tweeted on Friday.
However, the lawyer-turned-politician observed it was unlikely that Ruto will be forced to resign since the 'Kieleweke' MPs were making 'empty threats'.
"But, of course, the confused, greedy con-men and cowards cannot and will not deliver on their empty threats," Miguna added.
