Star Newspaper journalist Eric Oloo succumbed to blunt force trauma, a postmortem shared with K24 TV shows.
The blunt force trauma to the head resulted in excessive internal bleeding leading to death.
Details of the grim postmortem, released on Saturday, were shared by Gabriel Juma, the pathologist who conducted it.
The body of the journalist was discovered in the house of Sabina Kerubo, an Unguja Police Station deputy OCS and said to have been Eric Oloo's lover.
The grim discovery was made on Thursday morning 21.
According to the article on K24 TV's news portal, Oloo was hit in a confrontation after he found men at Sabina Kerubo's house.
The deputy OCS is behind bars alongside her daughter, house help and a middle-aged man identified as Victor.
Moses Ochieng', who is the landlord of the house where Sabina Kerubo stayed, reported to the police after seeing Eric Oloo's body lying on the ground lifeless.
Kerubo had gone to the landlord to ask to be helped with a car so that she could take Oloo to hospital.
Members of the family of the 41-year-old Star journalist have expressed their displeasure at the way the investigations into the murder of their kin are unfolding.
