Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot on Sunday distanced Tanga Tanga brigade from alleged impeachment plot against Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.
Early this year, a group of MPs allied to DP William Ruto threatened to kick out Dr Matiang'i over Ruaraka land saga, claiming that he had paid for public land.
The impeachment plot was once plot to the public by Belgut MP Nelson Koech, who accused Matiang'i of allegedly misusing his powers.
But on Sunday, Cheruiyot, a confidant of Dr Ruto, insisted that ODM party under Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang plotted for the impeachment.
"We had no interest to impeach Matiang'i. Dr Ruto has no issues with the minister. It's ODM which plotted through Moses Kajwang to remove him," he said.
"I received a call from the DP and he demanded that I move with speed and quell the tension. I summoned Jubilee Senators and asked them to ignore the motion," he added.
During the event on Sunday, Dr Matiang'i denied allegations by Cheruiyot that he met the DP where they discussed the impending impeachment motion.
But Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka was quick to dismiss the claims, adding that the impeachment motion emanated from Ruto's team.
"It's Ruto's team that wanted to impeach Matiang'i. ODM had nothing to do with the impeachment. Infact, he can't lie to us. Ruto has always had issues with Matiang'i."
Dr Matiang'i has positioned himself in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and has consolidated Gusii region ahead of 2022 showdown.
