Senior counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi has reacted to Starehe MP Charles Kanyi Njagua's alias Jaguar sentiments about foreign traders in Kenya.
Early this week, the Starehe MP said that traders from Uganda, Tanzania and China should be kicked out of Nairobi markets.
“We are not talking about six Chinese nationals. We are talking of hundreds of foreigners who work here (Kenya). I give the government 24 hours to evict these foreigners lest I, being a representative of this area, go into their shops, beat them and send them all the way to the airport,” stated Njagua.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Ahmnednassir said that Njagua should have been taken to court over his statements. However, he decried the fact that in Kenya, the law is applied selectively.
"In a country where the RULE of LAW is applied WITHOUT FEAR or FAVOUR and without any regard to the status of the man/women, the MP for Starehe will be arrested and frog matched to court...but this is Kenya, a country where punishment for law breakers is applied SELECTIVELY," he said.
He was arrested on Wednesday at Parliament building being whisked away to by police officers.
The youthful legislator's remarks come days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ordered the deportation of Chinese nationals engaging in business at Gikomba market after an outcry from the local traders.
