An Advisory notice has been issued to residents of Ganahola settlement in Mikindani ward, in Mombasa's Jomvu Sub County and all residents living on sloppy areas to relocate to higher and safer grounds.
The notice follows a series of assessments that were done on the risk factors involved and dangers on the lives of people living in such areas especially during this rainy period in the coastal county.
Several houses are reported to have collapsed and others damaged by landslides with no casualties in Ganahola settlement area.
Mikindani Ward Administrator Gideon Musyoka, Chief of Infrastructure and Public Works Eng Chula, the Director from Sub County Administration Walter Gideon and Humanitarian Activist Andry Mkenya toured the affected area on Thursday, and affirmed the affected families of county government's support.
This even as the County Government of Mombasa through the department of Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works together with the Sub County Administration assigned a team of Engineers and a Contractor to commence on the repair works of Kwa Shee Road in Mikindani which has been adversely damaged by the landslides in order to mitigate further effects of the torrential rains.
The Kenya Red Cross Society and The Kenya Power Company have been on the lead in ensuring safety of the residents in the affected areas by evacuating and cutting off power supply to avoid electrocution.
