Ongwae while addressing members of the press in his office on Wednesday morning reiterated that Matiang'i's hard work earned him the big post in government.

"I'm happy that Matiang'i has been given an opportunity by President Uhuru Kenyatta to coordinate the national government business. He deserved the opportunity given that he has been working hard in the Interior Ministry. In short, his chance came as a result of merit at work," said the county boss.

The ODM allied governor maintained that Matiang'i has been straight forward since he was absorbed into government in 2013 as the education cabinet secretary.

"Matiang'i has shown respect and hard work. He has streamlined the interior docket and on behalf of Kisii leaders I wish to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for recognizing Matiang'i's hard work and gave him a chance to head other ministries and supervise development projects," added Ongwae.

He assured that Kisii leaders will always stand with the Head of State for the sake of pushing development countrywide.
