Following the Saturday incident where police officers attached to Mandera Police Station survived death by a whisker , a multia-gency security operation has been launched in search of suspected terrorists who planted a landmine.
According to Mandera County Police Commander Mr Jeremiah ole Kosiom, security teams have been dispatched to Chabibar and Bambo villages where the suspects are believed to be hiding on.
The police boss further claimed that the Saturday incident was planned and staged by locals of Chebibar.
“The attack was done by Chabibar locals and we will do our best to apprehend the suspects,” he said.
However, locals blame the presence of landmines in Mandera on the poor quality of roads that make it easy for terrorists to plant Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
“The fact that someone can dig and plant an explosive on the road tells a lot about the quality of work done by the contractor,” said Abdi Ismael a resident of Mandera.
Of all border counties, Mandera is the worst hit by terrorist attacks. Security experts claim that its proximity to the war torn country of Somalia makes terrorist elements to easily sneak in to stage attacks on civillians and even security personnel.
