Locals at Chepkatet village in Ndalat, Nandi County on Monday woke up to the shocking news that a husband had killed his wife and later committed suicide.
Police reports indicate that the husband Isaack Kipchumba cut his wife, Edna Cheptoo, into pieces using a panga after a domestic quarrel.
According to Nandi County Police Commander Patrick Wambani, Kipchumba, 35, had on Sunday asked his wife to return home only for the two to quarrel later in the evening.
“The two had differences and the husband went for his wife to come back home so as to resolve the issue but when they arrived at home, the husband started quarrelling the wife and that’s when he took a panga and cut her to death,” narrated Wambani.
“After the incident, a report was made to the police and the man went missing but later his body was found dangling on a tree near a river,” he added.
The two have left three young children.
Their bodies were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret.
The police boss expressed concerns over increased suicide cases in the area as well as deaths that result from domestic wrangles.
He called on couples to always seek an amicable solution to their differences rather than resorting to violence and killing each other or committing suicide.
