You might have wondered why the bill did not match your estimates based on your usage.

However, several factors inflate your Kenya Power electricity bill besides errors from the monopoly supplier.

This postpaid calculator can help you understand other charges levied besides units consumed.

The calculator will prompt you to select the year, month, customer tariffs, monthly consumption and water heating.

These parameters will give you what you will have to part with monthly on electricity.

Assuming that your monthly consumption is 10 units, in November 2018 without water heating and your tariff is Domestic DC, the following charges apply;

Consumption Charge will be KSh 120.00 while your Fixed and Demand Charges will be KSh 0.00.

However, you will not pay KSh 120.00. The following charges will inflate the bill by KSh 54.41.

1. Fuel Index Charge KSh 25.00

2. Forex Charge KSh -0.77

3. Inflation Adjustment KSh 0.50

4. Water Resource Management Authority Levy KSh 0.23

5. Energy Regulatory Commission Levy KSh 0.30

6. Rural Electrification Program Levy KSh 6.00

7. Value Added Tax KSh 23.16

You should note that the cost per unit will be KSh 17.44 but will increase to KSh 21.58 per unit if your November monthly consumption raises from 10 to 100 units.
