The 28-year-old Kenyan is being linked with a move to Belgium’s Club Brugge after failing to feature in Spurs first three games of the 2019/20 season. The Mauricio Pochettino led side has won one, lost one and drawn one of the three games, prompting Murphy to state that the team is struggling due to Wanyama’s absence.

“Good signing for Brugge if he moves, I like him. He's a very, very good player. They are struggling a bit, aren't they? I say struggling, it's been an average start,” the former player is quoted by Goal.com.

“He is exactly what you need when you are struggling. Someone who can come in and put his foot in. He can play as well and he can get the odd goal. I'm surprised Tottenham didn't use him more because a couple of years ago, him and Dembele had a partnership in the centre of midfield, which was phenomenal. It was,” he added.

Wanyama, famously known as the Lion of Muthurwa joined Spurs in 2016 from Southampton. His game time has been limited due to injuries. He has a contract with the London based side until 2021.
