Police in Eldoret are investigating reports of increased cases of vehicles being stolen in Eldoret town in the last six months.
According to Eldoret West OCPD Zacharia Bitok, the cases have been rampant especially at the Central Business District.
“We have received information that Taxis and private vehicles are being stolen in the CBD. So far, four vehicles have been reported missing. We have started an investigation to find the root cause of this problem,” said Bitok.
He spoke to the press in his office on Friday.
“I am giving a stern warning to those involved in this heinous act that we are coming for you. Anyone found stealing vehicles will face the full force of the law,” he added.
John Kirwa, one of the Taxi operators in Eldoret town, called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation and arrest those involved in the syndicate.
“We have had problems of us being beaten and our vehicles stolen by unknown people. Mine was stolen last week where I was tied and dumped in Kapsabet. Police should do something since our lives are in danger,” said Kirwa.
He further said that the vehicles stolen are taken to Uganda through Busia County and suspected that powerful individuals are involved in the business.
