President Uhuru Kenyatta has insisted that betting firms must pay taxes.
Speaking at Kiamugumo Primary School in Kirinyaga County during Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi and city lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo’s traditional wedding, Uhuru said that all betting firms must be prepared to comply with regulations on the ground failure to which they will be closed down with immediate effect.
The head of State, who is completing his second and final term in power, said that payment of taxes is important for the economic growth of this country.
He urged leaders and other stakeholders to stand with him in the war against firms that are not ready to pay taxes yet they want to remain on the market.
Uhuru also said that he has no plans to revoke the decision of the government to shut down all pay bill numbers of companies that are not willing to comply with the betting regulations set by the board.
“The firms should stop threats that they will move to court. The government must get its share to fund activities that are beneficial to this country," he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The crackdown has affected SportPesa, Betpawa, Premierebet, Lucky 2 U, Dafa Bet, Betboss, Mozzarbet, Betin, Betway, 1XBet, Atari Gaming, and PalmsBet.
