Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa now claims Deputy President William Ruto will supervise Jubilee party campaigns in the upcoming Kibra parliamentary by-election.
Barasa said they will not allow party Secretary General Raphael Tuju to be responsible for nomination exercise or campaigns, since he was allegedly planning to hand over victory to the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking to the Standard on Tuesday, the vocal MP accused Tuju of planning to field a weak Jubilee candidate who will be out muscled by the opposition.
“We are aware he (Tuju) wants to sneak in a weak candidate so that Jubilee loses in the poll. Since we know he is working for the Opposition we cannot allow him to run the exercise. We want Ruto to be involved since he will supervise the campaigns in Kibra,” Barasa said.
Asked to comment on the sentiments, the party's Secretary General refused to be drawn into the matter, saying he never responds to party members who are essentially his employers.
“I never respond to party members, I only state party position. I cannot be involved in an altercation with party members because they are my employers,” Tuju said.
Jubilee has been caught in an internal conflict following emergence of a purported list of aspirants seeking the party's nomination in the mini-poll slated for November 7.
Tuju has termed the list, which contains name of former Kenya international footballer McDonald Mariga, as fake but some officials still insist the document was authentic.
