After over 10 days in police custody, Mr Omayio, a second term Jubilee MCA, was released following a successful bond application in a Nyamira court.

The controversial MCA is accused of defiling a Form 4 student early this month at a Kisii hotel. The girl resurfaced after almost a week of searching.

At the court, Omayio denied the charges, arguing that politics had played a key role in his arrest and detention by the police officers from the region.

"We are happy that his freedom has been secured. That's what we needed the most. He will now fight from outside to have him acquitted," said Kevin Mogaka.

Police are relying on hospital tests which turned out to be positive and they are seeking to have DNA samples taken from the MCA to prove their case.

Last week, county commissioner Amos Mariba asked residents to allow the court to hear and determine the matter. He also cautioned parents against failing to take care of their children.

"The matter is in court and I don't have much to say. Let's allow the due process to be followed. Parents should try to be cautious," he said.

Throughout his incarnation, the leadership of the Nyamira County Assembly did not bother to check on him due to the magnitude of the case.
