It now emerges that lack of toilets around the lake has compelled locals to get an alternative, with most usingnthe lake, and a few toilents constructed by the county governments.

Consequently, most locals, fishermen, touts, prostitutes, fishmongers, security officers, shopkeepers and coxswains are all using the lake when the call of nature beckons.

According to Moses Okoth, a fisherman at Wich Lum Beach in Bondo, lack of toilets has pushed them to the wall, and even security officers deployed to the beaches are aware of this.

He says that one only needs to alert the security officers when they need to use the lake, before proceeding.

“We initially used to relieve ourselves in polythene bags until they were banned last year. We have now been left with no option but relieve ourselves in the lake, especially at night," he told the Standard on Saturday.

So bad is the situation that some beach lines are littered with human waste, which is posing a great health risk to the same people involved in the same and others operating around.
