Kenyans may dig deep into their pockets to sustain an impending plebiscite that would lead to constitutional changes, it has emerged.
Among the issues being crafted by Bulding Bridges initiative is change of governance that would see introduction of parliamentary system.
Gusii spokesperson Simba Arati said on Friday that the changes would see Raila Odinga, the proponent of the handhake becoming president will President Uhuru Kenyatta will be Prime Minister.
“Kenyans should prepare for the new power line up. Raila will be President in 2022 with President Uhuru serving as his Prime Minister,” said Mr Arati, a close ally of Raila’s.
The firebrand legislator, who accompanied Uhuru and Raila to the vast Gusii region a fortnight ago, added that those opposing the move should better get ready.
"Those who are opposing the move, let they be ready for the arrangement."
ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire backed the proposed arrangement in an interview , insisting that it will cure corruption and negative ethnicity in Kenya.
"We need to change the constitution. That is the only way we can realise unity and nationalism," said the former Kitutu Masaba MP.
In both Nyamira and Kisii, leading politicians among them governors James Ongwae and John Nyagarama have backed the initiative by the two leaders.
