Governor Ali Korane has alleged a plot by the national government to repossess land under the trusteeship of the Garissa county government.

Korane alleges that there is a plot to change the law under the Community Lands Act to repossess the said community land.

According to the Jubilee governor, some senior state officials are detrained to make sure that the national government has a say on community land.

Korane said that Garissa has several parcels of community land that are yet to be divide which he claimed that government wants to take.

“We are aware of the scheme by senior people in the national government working to make sure that community land in our custody is taken,” he said in Garissa Town on Thursday.

Governor Korane stated that his government will fight any attempts to repossess its land.

Korane said that the constitution gives county governments power to manage community land.

Meanwhile, Korane has asked the government to fast track issuance of land titles to genuine owners in the county.

He said that Garissa has been sidelined in the issuance of tiles.

“Our plea is to President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and ensure that genuine land owners in Garissa are given titles,” he added.

Korane said that cases of land conflict are rising in Garissa.
