Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said his Maendeleo Chap Chap party will push for lowering mortgage rates to enable most Kenyans buy homes.
Mutua said MCCP will sponsor a bill in parliament towards lowering the rates alongside pushing for zero rating of construction materials to bring down construction costs and ultimately build more affordable units for the people.
"These are viable measures that will truly help achieve the government's Big 4 Agenda that we are truly passionate about," Mutua said.
He spoke when he presided over the commissioning of Great Wall Gardens 1 and ground breaking of Great Wall Gardens 2 in Athi River, Mavoko Sub-county on Tuesday.
Mutua said he had been invited by the projects' developer Mr. Zeyun Yang, MD Eldemann Properties Ltd to preside over the events.
He said his administration is committed to finding solutions to water problems facing Mavoko residents.
The governor told investors in the construction sector to follow legal processes and procedures while at work to avoid risking people's lives.
"My government will ensure that all buildings which are currently under construction adhere to building codes and those already inhabited, inspected to ensure compliance. We will not risk the lives of our people by allowing rogue builders to build in Machakos," he said.
Mutua said he will continue to provide an enabling environment for business and reduce bureaucracy in government offices to attract private investors who may directly or indirectly improve locals' living standards.
