Kidero, who lost his seat to the incumbent Governor Mike Sonko, is expected to shed more light on the alleged loss of Ksh.213 million belonging to Nairobi County during his tenure in office.

On Thursday, High Court judge John Onyingo lifted orders barring the trial of the politician.  Kidero and 10 other suspects have been put on spot over the alleged misuse of the funds before he left power.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji confirmed that his office is ready to prove that Kidero was directly linked to the loss of the funds.

Through Assistant DPP Joseph Riungu, Haji said that Kidero needs to come clean on the missing funds.

Riungu told Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti that Kidero and the accused fraudulently made some payments without following the stipulated procedures.

He argued that the former county boss was aware of payment of goods and services but they were not received at the end of the day.

Kidero allegedly colluded with the officers, seven whom were senior officers in his government, to siphon public funds at the expense of the tax payer. The said amount was misappropriated between January 16, 2014 and January 25, 2016.

The other suspects facing graft charges alongside Kidero are former head of accounting Stephen Ogago Osiro, former Finance and Planning minister Gregory Mwakanongo, former County Secretary Lilian Ndegwa and former Chief Finance Officer Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba.

The prosecution has also implicated acting head of Treasury Maurice Ochieng Okere and acting CFO Luke Mugo
