Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has suspended two clinical officers at the Kangundo Hospital.
In a post on his official Twitter account on Monday, the county boss revealed that he directed the suspension of the two health practitioners after it was discovered that they have been referring patients to private clinics.
The outspoken governor further revealed that he had also suspended a clinical officer at the Machakos Level Five Hospital on grounds of reporting to work while drunk.
Mutua noted that he will not condone such behaviour as the suspended health officials were embarrassing him as well as the diligent clinical officers in the county.
“I have directed that two clinical officers of Kangundo Hospital who have been referring patients to private clinics and one clinical officer who came to work drunk at Machakos Level 5 be suspended. They are embarrassing us and the majority of diligent Machakos clinical officers” he tweeted.
Mutua who is serving his second and last term in office has pledged to transform public health facilities in the county in a bid to ensure residents access quality health services.
This comes days after Mutua threatened to fire senior county health officials if they don't improve the standards of health facilities in the county.
The governor said the county officials have two weeks raise the standards in the county's public hospitals.
