Kenyans opposition doyen Raila Odinga becomes the latest to join international outcry over mistreatment of popular Ugandan MP Robert Kyagulanyi, who was arrested for the second time on Thursday.
The Kyadondo East legislator was wrestled down by security forces at Jinja Airport as he tried to make his way to US for specialised treatment.
And through his ODM party, Raila has challenged Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to allow democracy to prevail for strengthening of regional integration.
"We are saddened by the fact that even after leaving custody with injuries that needed treatment abroad, Hon Kyagulanyi was stopped from leaving Uganda, and in the most callous and inhumane manner.
"We urge all parties in Uganda to urgently embrace the values of democracy and justice, for ultimately, dictatorship in the modern world remains unsustainable," read a statement by the party.
Last week, Bobi Wine, as he's popularly known, had charges against him dropped by military before he was sued at a civilian court when he managed to get bail.
He is accused of orchastrating protests that led to an attack that targeted presidential motorcade.
For the better part of Friday, police and military were embroiled in running battles with opposition supporters who demanded for the MP's release.
Also, US State Department had issued a statement that it was closely monitoring the situation in Uganda, an event that could throw Museveni into a limbo.
