Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has suddenly slipped into a loud silence, a strange and newly-acquired character.

The once very vocal leader is suddenly quiet on the ongoing national issues, including the 8 percent additional tax on petrol.

She is yet to state her stand on the same, and the drama that preceded its passage in the National Assembly last Thursday.

Similarly she has remained silent as her brother, and opposition leader Raila Odinga is being bashed for supporting the amendment.

Despite being thought to be eyeing the Kisumu gubernatorial seat in the approaching elections, her sudden silence could be translated to mean the opposite.

She is expected to be all over the place as early as now, holding meetings and martialing support  for her pending bid.

This is as she prepares for the tough battle ahead, as she seeks to unseat the incumbent county boss Anyang' Nyong'o, whom she supported in the previous 2017 elections.

Similarly, Odinga is yet to speak on the nation's current most heated topic, the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno which has since landed, among others, Migori Governor Okoth Obado in detention.

Whether the silence is deliberate or otherwise, only time will tell.
