Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o on Thursday fired his Health Executive Committee Member Rosemary Obara over 'poor performance'.

Obara was immediately replaced with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) lecturer Prof Judith Migunda-Attyang.

In a statement, the County Director of Communication Aloice Ager said that the move followed months of complains from citizens who have been decrying poor services.

However, the statement did not clarify whether Obara has been completely kicked out of the administration, adding that the same will be considered in the future, since she was picked from the civil service.

Ager added that the move is also aimed at organizing the ministry, since the county is one of the four enjoying the Universal Health Care (UHC) pilot program.

“The health docket is also one of Governor Nyong’o’s legacy projects. He wants the docket reorganized to make the referral system work through a lot of effort on grassroots health initiatives of disease prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment. To this end, he has hired and put on the county payroll 2,500 community health workers," read the statement, according to the Standard.

The program seeks to ensure better and cheap healthcare to the residents.
