Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday hosted 14 MPs from Kisii and Nyamira at his Harambee House offices in Nairobi, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko has confirmed.
Apparently, the meeting came just four days after his team comprising of over 30 elected and nominated leaders from Nyamira met at Borabu MP Ben Momanyi's home where they endorsed him.
In a statement issued by Speaker Moffat Teya, the team urged those supporting DP William Ruto to consider supporting Dr Matiang'i for the big seat.
"It's our plea to those still on the other side to consider joining us. We are building a team that we should all join as Abagusii. Matiang'i has proven to be a dependable leader," he said.
And on Wednesday, all elected MPs along with Woman Representatives and senators met Matiang'i at Harambee House offices where they discussed development.
On Friday at North Mugirango, Nyamoko said only Prof Sam Ongeri, Janet Ong'era and Richard Tong'i of Nyaribari Chache missed with permission.
"I want to confirm to you than on Wednesday we all met the minister to discuss development. Only Ongeri, Ong'era and Tong'i were absent," he said.
"We all love his job and as a community, we shall give him all the support he wants. We also want him to help us finish a number of projects. That is what we discussed," he added.
Apparently, Nyamoko, West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, Sylvanus Osoro of South Mugirango and Kitutu Masaba's Shadrack Mose have been leading pro-Ruto campaigns in Gusii.
Dr Matiang'i is keen to galvanize Abagusii community support ahead of 2022 polls. A number of leaders including Governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae wants him on ballot.
