More than 400 farmers from Naivasha on Tuesday stormed the Deputy County Commissioner’s office over land ownership.
The farmers from Moi Ndabi Settlement Scheme who claim ownership of the land said they were given the land by retired President Daniel Moi.
The angry farmers asked Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Mbogo Mathioya to resolve the matter before they are kicked out of their land where they have lived in for years.
The farmers through their leader, Thomas Nchashoi, said some farmers were shocked to find their parcels of land occupied when they moved to a different location.
Nchashoi said the situation could get out of hand if the government fails to do anything as the farmers plan to take matters into their own hands.
“We were issued with allotment letters indicating that we were the bona fide members. We are ready to use force if the two levels of government fail to amicably resolve the matter,” Nchashoi said.
Jonathan Ole Nalangu, a beneficiary, has accused settlement officials of doing little to solve the matter claiming that some officials are colluding with brokers to sell their land.
Mathioya said relevant authorities will address their concerns and ensure they get justice.
“Besides that, we shall not allow anyone to break the law. Those talking of bloodshed will only have themselves to blame,” said Mathioya.
