Cracks seems to be emerging in the Amani National Congress just 24 hours after Secretary General Barack Muluka expressed intentions of the party to work with DP William Ruto.
In an interview with KTN on Wednesday, Muluka said the party will team up with Deputy President William Ruto to opposed proposed constitutional changes through BBI.
Mr Muluka accused Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta of sneaking in constitutional changes, arguing that the process was not anchored in the law.
Further, he said, Raila is an opportunist, adding that Mr Musalia Mudavadi is the substantive opposition leader in the country.
“ANC will team up with Ruto and any other like-minded politicians to vote against the referendum, which some political observers say might take place in June next year,” he said.
“The only opposition leader now is Musalia. Raila and Kalonzo are political opportunists who have gone to ‘sleep’ with Government, claiming that they are feeling cold being in the opposition. We will demonstrate this when we beat Raila in Kibra,” Muluka said.
But in a rejoinder, Musalia Mudavadi's deputy and Lugari MP Ayub Savula has dismissed Muluka's sentiments, arguing that ANC supports BBI.
"He was expressing his own opinions. That is not the position of the party. We support BBI. If there are changes to be made, we shall participate," he said.
"You cannot say that we shall team up with the opponent. Mudavadi has no intentions to work with DP William Ruto. That's just an opinion of an individual," he added.
In recent weeks, Mudavadi has been opposing the government, taking a contradicting position from his NASA party leader Raila Odinga. He recently insisted that he's not interested with government jobs.
