Speaking on Sunday, the former Vice President termed himself one of the victims of the powerful group of Kenyans, out to control the political field.

He claimed that they warned him against vying for president in the 2002 elections, adding that they are still at work and will be seeking to influence the outcome of the 2022 poll as well.

"The deep-state still exists but I don't know if its the same one. I would be surprised if they will not seek to Influence the  2022 elections," he said on Pointblank on Sunday.

But he suggested that the country can still have a clean and transparent election if independent bodied can retain their independence.

Mudavadi mentioned The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Judiciary as the very important bodies which seek being influenced in the poll.

"It is important that in the success we are entering into, institutions that are supposed tp be very significant in making sure that the transition is perfect are not interfered with at all," he added.

He claimed that in his 2002 case, he was even cautioned that he was not going to be allowed to win, resulting in him staying away from the race.
