Detectives in Kisumu county have embarked on trying to establish the cause of the mysterious death of Kisumu Court of Appeal Judge Otieno Odek.
The judge was found dead inside his apartment at Groovehard Apartments within Kisumu's Milimani Estate on Monday, where it is suspected he collapsed before departing.
Detectives have since cordoned off the scene, where he has been living alone since February, in a bid to establish the cause of his death, a probe that was confirmed by Nyanza Regional Police Commander Vincent Makokha.
The police boss said that Odek was found lying on his back and covered with a blanket. Blood was also oozing from his body openings, though there were no signs of injuries.
He added that the police were forced to break down his door, which was locked from the inside. His television was on at the time of the break-in.
“We cannot ascertain when he died, whether it was on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or today morning and we are not sure of the cause of death. The pathologists will carry out a postmortem and establish the cause,” said Kisumu Chief Magistrate Julius Ngarngar as quoted by the People Daily.
Ngarngar also said that Odek drove himself home on Friday.
At the time of the discovery, phones belonging to the deceased as well as door keys were found on the table. He was lying on his back with one hand supporting the head.
Odek has been serving in Kisumu for 9 months after his transfer from Nairobi in February.
