Here are 3 reasons why you should limit your meat intake;

1. Meat causes hardening of blood vessels

Meat causes clogging of the blood vessels. A substance called carnitine is present in meat (mainly red meat) has been found to cause atherosclerosis ( the hardening of the blood vessels). 

This is further converted into trimethylamine-N-oxide by a bacteria in the intestines. The compound is capable of causing cardiovascular disease which can cause death. 

2. Meat is acidic

Meat is one of the major acidic foods in the world. The process through which meat is broken down in the stomach is too slow and requires extra effort from the kidney. 

According to dummies.com, too much acid in the body weakens the immune system, risking the body of infections. These acids also cause chronic diseases such as stomach ulcers. 

3. Meat is high in saturated fats

We are advised to be mindful of the amount of fat we eat but do we know that meat especially beef contains huge chunks of these fats? 

Saturated fats from meat are too much for the human body to process healthily. Too much consumption of meat, therefore, means to many depositions of these fats into our bodies. This risks the body of acquiring dangerous diseases such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.
