Led by Ann Owiti, Kisumu County’s Organizing Secretary for the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN), they wondered why some governors have met the nurses demands while nothing is forthcoming from Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s administration.

“They are claiming that they have the money but their hands are tied. Who untied the hands of Governor Alfred Mutua of Machakos for him to be able to pay the nurses? Even honourable Obado of Migori has paid the nurses,” said Ms Owiti in Kisumu on Friday.

“What is wrong with Kisumu County? They have kept quiet as if there’s nothing wrong happening. If they have the money, let them pay the nurses,” she urged.

They have defied President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order to report back to work on Friday by 8 AM and vowed to stay put until their demands are met.

They are demanding for the implementation of the return to work agreement signed in November 2017.

The strike has paralysed delivery of health services in Kisumu County hospitals especially the Kisumu County Hospital and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (Russia).
