Kenyan international football stars Macdonald Mariga and his brother Victor Wanyama made a surprise visit to Malindi United football team to donate football facilities and campaign against drug abuse.
Mariga, a celebrated midfielder who formerly played for Inter Milan but now plays for Spanish second division team Oviedo.
He alongside his brother Victor Wanyama of Tottenham united on Thursday donated Sh50,000 cash and five balls to the team and made a brief visit to the Alaskan grounds urging youth to shun drugs.
The two superstars arrived at the stadium in a tuk-tuk courtesy of Kibadi Kipanga a famous tuk-tuk operator and businessman who is a personal friend to Mariga.
Kipanga had told the celebrities to meet the Malindi United football players so as to boost their morale and copy from the role models.
Wanyama who was first to speak said he was happy to meet the upcoming players and encouraged them to stop drugs.
“We also started at this level, the issue of drugs stop it We shall give support as we will be coming anytime we are around,’’ he said.
On his part Mariga said they would have donated many sports facilities but only that they were called on short notice.
