Nominated Member of Machakos County Assembly Margaret Mwikali says funeral homes should ensure no mishaps are experienced over body preservation or picking.

"We are past the traditional ways of preserving the dead and that's why we have morgues nowadays. It is up to the management to ensure that great services are given to the people," said Mwikali in Masii on Monday.

The MCA said it was unfortunate that a family from Masii in Mwala was forced to plan the burial of their dad twice because of a mistake committed by an attendant at Montezuma Monalisa mortuary in Machakos town.

She said that families go through a lot of pain whenever the body of their loved one is not well taken care of or goes missing.

This follows an incident where a body of Samuel Kioko Mulei went missing from Montezuma Monalisa mortuary on Wednesday last week when family members arrived to pick it.

Mulei's body had been released to another family in Makueni where it was later exhumed on Thursday after a court order.

"You can imagine how their grief heightened when they were told that the body was not there," noted Mwikali who consoled with the family.
