The two leaders shared podium on Sunday at Nyayo where they spearheaded the Marathon which was first inaugurated in 2014 by Mrs Kenyatta to help improve maternal health in the country.

And Ruto, who represented presidency in 21 KM race, said Uhuru may however have to plan for more than 5KM race  since his preferred 2KM is meant for expectant mothers only.

"Sir, this year I represented presidency in 21KM race while First Lady participated in 10KM on behalf of our office. We did not have a representative in 5KM and 2KM. Next year, be ready for the same.

"But Sir, I know you are willing to take part in 2KM race. Sadly, that is meant for expectant mothers and that rules you out. So you can now get ready for 5KM," he said as Uhuru burst into laughter.

Ruto had ushered in the president before the First Lady completed her race. Uhuru could be seen ushering in the First Lady and hugging her as the crowd cheered.

He said: "Thank you William. You've said a lot but I can assure you I will do 5KM comfortably but I may even consider 10KM," he said
