Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has defended National Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Henry Rotich for implementing the 16 % Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel and petroleum products.
The MP says that CS Rotich acted in good faith by implementing the VAT.
Duale adds that the ongoing attacks on CS Rotich are unwarranted.
According to the Jubilee MP, CS Rotich implemented the Bill that MPs had passed in 2013.
The lawmaker while speaking in an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Duale said that CS Rotich is not to blame for the fuel increase.
"The CS National Treasury should not be condemned because he only acted on a Bill Members of Parliament passed in 2013," the Garissa MP said.
Duale castigated MPs leading attacks on CS Rotich accusing them of politicizing the VAT.
He asked politicians to be sincere in their criticism and stop misleading Kenyans.
CS Rotich is under attack for implementing the 16% VAT on fuel despite MPs voting to suspend it by two years.
The VAT that came into effect on September 1 has seen fuel prices increase resulting to increase in bus fares across the country.
A section of politicians has threatened to call for peaceful protests if the VAT is not suspended.
