Pope Francis has appointed his Lordship Bishop Dominic Kimengich as the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret.
In a Facebook post, Catholic church-owned Waumini Radio station noted that Bishop Dominic had been serving as the Bishop of Lodwar. "Pope Francis has appointed Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich Bishop of Eldoret Diocese. Rt. Rev. Kimengich is currently the Bishop of Lodwar," reads the post in part.According to Waumini, news of the appointment of the bishop was publicly known on Saturday, November 16th when Rome broke the news on the same day."The news of the appointment of Bishop Kimengich was officially made public in Rome on Saturday, 16th, November 2019 at noon. "further reads the post.The bishop's appointment letter was sent by Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, His Excellency Archbishop Bert Van Megen to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) on an aforementioned day.The office of the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Eldoret became vacant on 30th October 2017 after passing on of Bishop Cornelius Korir.Thereafter, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Maurice Crawly, bishop of Kitale diocese as the Apostolic Administrator of the Eldoret Diocese.Bishop Dominic Kimengich who was born on 23rd April 1961, was ordained as Nakuru diocesan priest on September 14th 1986.On March 5th 2011, he was appointed as bishop of Lodwar diocese, a post he had been holding.
