Nairobi County Government seems to have maintained its stability despite a court order barring Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko from accessing office at City Hall.
A deputy governor would have stepped in and acted as the governor but Sonko had up to the time that he was barred from accessing office, not appointed his deputy.
Reports from Nation indicate that the stability is thanks to one man who has been running Nairobi County from behind the scenes.
The man is Simon Leboo ole Morintat.
Morintat, according to Nation, is one of the most trusted allies of Sonko and probably the person in charge of the city currently.
“He is one of those who are highly-trusted by Sonko. He has been there for long and even acted briefly as a clerk,” an MCA told Nation.
Mr Morintat is currently holding two crucial positions at City Hall; the acting county secretary and the Public Service Management chief officer.
He is now the official in charge of all operations at the Nairobi county government.
His long experience not just at the city but also as a Member of County Assembly during the reign of Dr Evans Kidero as the governor of Nairobi County is believed to be a key factor in propelling him into his current position.
Being in such a position has however placed Mr Morintat in the spotlight.
He was among the Nairobi County Officials who were summoned for interrogation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over graft allegations.
