ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has defended Siaya Senator James Orengo following President Uhuru Kenyatta's latest outbursts on legislators practising law.
During Jamhuri Day celebrations, Uhuru reprimanded legislators representing corrupt officials in court, citing conflict of interest.
The president ordered the Attorney-General to come up with a bill that will bar the MPs from representing people fighting graft allegations in court.
"State and public officers are not about the law. One cannot serve as a legislator at the national or county level while at the same time practising law whether or not for gain," Uhuru said.
Sifuna insists that Orengo has been professional in executing his duties, adding that he has never embarrassed the legal family.
"It is the shocking level of ignorance of the law displayed by those two characters that has caused all these problems," said Sifuna.
"@orengo_james has never brought such anxiety with his appearances. He largely goes to court to teach the law. Murkomen broke the profession."
Uhuru's instructions came a day after Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Makueni counterpart Mutula Kilonzo Jnr appeared for Governor Mike Sonko.
Orengo has been also appearing in high profile cases with that of Busia Governor Sospeter Ojamoong and DCJ Philomena Mwilu being among others.
