The family of a 40-year-old man is in tears following the disappearance of their kin, Omar Faraj, and have appealed to the Kenyan government to help them find their loved one.
According to members of the family, Mr Faraj left Lamu for Eldoret to further his studies in nursing at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).
His sister Hadija Faraj says she talked with him days ago on a Thursday morning before losing contact.
Calls to the nursing student have not been going through, adding to the anxiety of the family members who do not know whether Omar Faraj is alive or dead.
"He left Lamu and went to Eldoret for studies... I last talked to him on Thursday morning (Alitoka Lamu akaenda all the way Eldoret kutafuta masomo... Ndugu yangu nilizungumza dakika ya mwisho mimi Alhamisi asubuhi), '' the sister said.
In a statement, MTRH CEO Dr Wilson Aruasa said Faraj asked for time out to attend a funeral for his friend's uncle in Eldoret last week.
"Student Omar did his regular theatre practicals for Thursday 19/12/2019 morning upto 9am when he requested permission to go and attend a funeral of an uncle to one of his friends... As per college procedure, Omar was required to sign off from the college before he left, however he left without doing so.
"All students were ( which they did) to break off for the festive season on the morning of Friday 20th December, 2019 hence the college thought Omar had similarly taken the break after attending the funeral he had mentioned...Efforts to call him using his regular mobile phone number were not fruitful. The case was duly reported to the Eldoret Police Station who are leading efforts to search and trace him," Aruasa said.
Omar was a nurse at the King Fahad hospital in Lamu County before leaving for further studies.
He has four wives and ten children, according to a report aired Wednesday on the Royal Media Services-owned Citizen Television.
