Kibra Member of Parliament  Kenneth Okoth has announced hundreds of opportunities for 2018 KCSE graduates who garnered an average of C+ and above.

In a Facebook post, Okoth noted that the former students will be enrolled as assistant teachers in various schools in Kibra constituency.

He adds that this would address cases of teachers shortage and increase teacher-child contact hours.

"The Office of Kibra Member of Parliament in partnership with the Centre for Community Development and Human Rights and Access Education International today launched the assistant teacher's training programme in Kibra Constituency.

"The programme will train and enroll Kibra students who scored C+ and above in their just concluded 2018 KCSE, as assistant teachers in Primary and Secondary schools within Kibra. The objective of the programme will be to equip the scholars with market oriented skills as they wait to join Universities and Colleges.

"Before admission to various primary and secondary schools, they will be trained on the concept of volunteerism, communication skills, good grooming, the role of assistant teacher, life skills, conflict resolution, national values and leadership and integrity. Some of the schools to benefit from this programme will be Kibera Primary, Raila Educational Center, Ayany Primary, Olympic Primary, Mbagathi Road Primary and Joseph Kang'ethe Primary School.

"The programme will run for three months and the students will be expected to attended the assigned schools 3 days in a week. Through this initiative, we shall increase teacher child contact hours thus address the challenge of teacher shortage in Kibra," he posted.
