Deputy President William Ruto’s claims that he assisted Opposition leader Raila Odinga secure a special envoy job at the African Union are false, the latter's son Raila Junior has said.
At Naivasha on Sunday, Ruto noted that the government negotiated for Odinga to be appointed as AU Representative for Infrastructure development.
The second in command reminded Raila, who doubles as ODM leader, that his job at the AU doesn’t entail whistle blowing after the emergence of the fake gold Saga.
The DP asked Odinga to focus on matters of infrastructure development and not investigations.
The remarks, however, did not augur well with the Raila Junior, who asked the DP not to make claims without evidence.
"The man who told us he was approached four times and refused has changed tune, now claiming he accepted the advances and even negotiated AU envoy mission. Is he running out of campaign ideas or just untreatable Raila obsession?" Oh what a tangled web we weave," he tweeted.
On Monday, Odinga through his spokesperson Dennis Onyango rubbished the DP's claims.
"We don't know what Ruto is party to and what he is not. If he had his way, he would be party to everything and anything.
"What we know and I believe all Kenyans know is that Ruto can never be party to anything that uplifts Raila Odinga. If he was party to those talks, he must have joined to stop it but failed,” Onyango said.
